champagne quartz
Champagne quartz has amazing clarity and the fascinating pale brown shade make this a true collector's piece. Pliny wrote nearly 2000 years ago that quartz crystals were formed from ice that was exposed to intensely cold climates for long periods of time in dark caverns in the mountains. The word quartz comes from the Greek "krystallos" which means ice. It was believed by the Greeks and the Romans that quartz was in fact ice that couldn't be melted because it was made by the gods.
Brown gems are quite rare in the gem world, only a few other brown or black minerals are ever cut for gemstones including the smokey topaz, the very rare black beryl and the brown corundum, this alone makes champagne quartz truly fascinating.
