24th Year Anniversary - Tanzanite - 60 Designs

Anniversaries are traditionally celebrated with the giving of gifts relating to the year of the wedding or civil partnership. Around the turn of the 19th century it was popular to give gifts of paper, cotton or leather for the first few years. However, in more recent times and due to the increasingly availability of fine rare gemstones, it is more popular to give jewellery to the one you love.

In the twenty-fourth year of marriage it is customary to give the gift of Tanzanite. It is only found in one location in the world, Tanzania Africa.

Tanzanite was discovered in 1967 and was hailed the “gemstone of the 20th century” and was discovered in the Merelani Hills near Arusha in the north of Tanzania.

It is claimed tanzanite is a 1000 times rarer than diamonds, Zoisite occurs widely, however, the same geological conditions that produced tanzanite in the ground is so rare it has been described as ‘more astounding than the stone itself’.
